Slutty brownies

Admit it, you clicked on this post just because you wanted to know where the “slutty” come in. I’m-a let ya finish but while I have your attention, I wanted to get your opinion on the new name. You don’t want to know the origins of it, trust me. Suffice to say the last word rhymes with “Junkie”. Anyhoo, thoughts? I’m really liking it and think I’ll start to make labels with it on. Joy on a stick

I must admit, I’m easy. Cheering me up takes nothing more than a few sweets (preferably chocolate), and even just beautiful pictures of cheerful looking sweets. See? Very easy. Wedding Guide has put together a linky party of desserts on a stick from all over the interwebs. Even if you never have a wedding or don’t know how to cook, be like me and let some sweetness brighten up your day.

Today was crazy bag making day, slowly ticking off the items on my must-make list. I made this:


Modesty Fashion has the tute for this Anthropologie inspired bag on Cut Out and Keep. Then I also made the final version of the practice bag I made last week, adding oversized rivets this time.

While deciding what handle to make for this one, I’m taking a break to enjoy Number One on my long list of comfort foods: leche flan, the kind my mama used to make. When I was a kid, she’d make leche flan for very special occasions and upon my very persistent request. While I’ve learned to make it myself, it makes me miss home and family so much I avoid making it unless I’m seriously homesick – which for no apparent reason I am right now. So here’s my mama’s surefire recipe for joy:

1 can condensed milk (I used a 395g can)

1 condensed milk can of water

4 egg yolks

That’s it. Mix together till smooth, strain into a steamable container. Steam for about 15 minutes, let cool, refrigerate for an hour or two (or until you can’t control yourself any longer) and enjoy a little sweet taste of home.

Why am I still single? Because when I think about being married I fantasize about waking up in my 3,000-thread count sheets to a beautiful man in a frilly apron (and nothing else) who will spoon-feed me delights such as this. FAT CHANCE. Anyhoo, while that fantasy may remain as such into my ripe old age, the recipe for this deliciously named torta di fragole e crema soffice is quite real. Homemade twix bars

Yes, I admit it, I have possibly the unhealthiest, most sugar-crammed diet in the world. If you look at my cupboards, it’s filled with cookies, candy bars, and ingredients for making simple sinful delights. Then you open my fridge and see maybe a leaf of lettuce struggling for survival and freezer bags filled with pork, chicken and beef cuts. If I were to make a New Year’s resolution it would be to eat healthier. The -IER at the end being the operative word because I sure cannot stay aay from desserts. Feed me salad all day, just don’t take away my desserts. Not when I have very helpful people like the Cupcake Lady around to feed my addictions 😀 At least it’s homemade! It’s lunchtime on my side of the world and of course I’m more interested in dessert than the actual meal. Here’s today’s no bake beauty from Gingerbread Bagels. It uses two of my favorite sinful snacks: Oreos and Twix . . . om nom nom nom. Recipe here.
